Dr. Price has been a visiting professor and guest lecturer at numerous universities in the United States, Canada, and abroad. She has served as a Director of the American Academy of Dermatology and is a consultant to the Academy. Dr. Price is co-founder of the National Alopecia Areata Foundation and is Chairman of its Medical Advisory Board. She has worked extensively with black hair. She described proximal trichorrhexis nodosa, which is the most common cause of acquired hair breakage in the African-American population. She pioneered work in scarring hair loss in black women, and has shown that this condition represents a form of pseudopelade and is not caused by the application of hot oil or hot combs as previously thought. She was a founding member of the Hair Research Society in 1990 and was elected to be its first president. |
